Connie Sumberg, Mary Lou Sumberg (two sisters), and Paul Rooney (Mary Lou’s husband) are the partners in Workstead Industries, which brings you Pomona’s Universal Pectin. We are a small, one-product, family-owned business.
Workstead Industries got its start in 1980 on Pragtree Farm in Arlington, Washington. Farmers Brian Saunders and Connie Sumberg had an abundance of organic fruit. Brian wanted to make jam, but was horrified at the amount of sugar required.
Some sleuthing and experimenting led to the pectin known today as Pomona’s Universal Pectin. In 1989, Connie took over the business, running it independently until 2009, when Mary Lou and Paul joined her.
We are proud to provide our high-quality pectin that jells reliably with low amounts of any sweetener. If you’re trying to reduce the amount of sugar in your diet, you’ll love Pomona’s. Now you can make healthy, homemade jam sweetened to your taste.
We invite you to explore our website: Click on the Learn jar and watch our short video. Connie teaches you step-by-step how to use Pomona’s to make low-sugar jam.
